Your business is always on Day 1. Amazon knows this and so should you.
“Day 2 is stasis. Followed by irrelevance. Followed by excruciating, painful decline. Followed by death. And that is why it is always Day 1.” – Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos
The good news about this? It’s the same for a 10 year old company as it is a 2 year old company. Technology, innovation and the gauntlet pace with which society moves has in some ways moved to level the playing field. Loyalty is harder than ever to create and knowing you can never rest on that pedestal you’ve built is not a bad realisation to have. Self awareness is the essential precursor to improvement and the threat to your business isn’t in your competition but in your customers – and their expectations.
So, what’s next for you?
Expectations go up every day. The second you’ve done something impressive we’re waiting for the next thing. You can see this as a terrifying, exhausting prospect or you can embrace it as the essential core of business and let your imagination fly. Creativity is arguably just as important as cash in the modern market and nurturing yours is the same as taking out a killer insurance policy – smart and pays off in the end.
