“You need to read this woman’s blog, you’ll LOVE her.”
Five years ago I was sent a link to a blog called ‘The Middle Finger Project’. I had no idea how something so simple, so normal as being sent a blog post would change my life.
He was right, the marketer that sent me the link. I LOVED her. It was bold and fresh, emotional and brilliant. It was business packed with feelings and real life. It was anything but boring – a huge contrast to the college textbooks I’d spent a year teaching from.
God I craved that kind of confidence, that kind of passion and of course those writing skills. Her words were powerful and they made me feel powerful.
Fast forward about 4 years and I’m in London waiting to meet her. Overwhelmed. Excited. Nervous. A little bit terrified i’ll look like some teenage fan girl at a One Direction concert. I don’t really have ‘idols’ but if i did, this woman would be it.
I spent the entire weekend working with her and it was a game changer. The Marketing Knot – something i’d been dreaming up and working on for the last 4 years came to life in all it’s full colour glory with her help.
She is a living, breathing example that anything is possible and dreams do come true – when you have the balls to go after them. And the point of this post isn’t for me to gush about this woman but to ask you, who is inspiring you to achieve the impossible?
What you see, hear and read every day shapes your perception of what’s possible and whilst you might not have total control over who you interact with in your daily life, one thing you can influence is what you see online – on your Facebook feed, in your inbox and on any other digital channels. Fill them with people and companies that don’t just make you dream bigger but make you expect more for yourself. Then go get it.
